Carolyn and Melissa met at the University of Chicago working as front-line fundraisers. Melissa‘s claim to fame was hiring Carolyn and knew she’d be a dynamic member of the team and a lifelong confidant.

 

During their time working together as major and principal gift officers at the University of Chicago, Melissa and Carolyn spearheaded donor strategy and solicitations, closing millions in philanthropic gifts. In addition to their individual giving work, they managed corporate and annual giving, spearheaded boards and volunteer programs, and managed complex teams. 

 

Following her time at the University of Chicago, Melissa served as Associate Vice President of the AMITA Health Foundation, a 19 hospital system. There she was responsible for community and behavioral health programming, as well as large campaigns. Carolyn remained at the University of Chicago, becoming Associate Dean of External Affairs for the Law School and a member of the University’s alumni relations and development senior leadership team.

 

Even when they were no longer officially working as colleagues, Carolyn and Melissa continued to consult with one another on strategy and often dreamed about launching a consulting firm together. When the perfect timing came along, they established Asher Partners. It was finally the opportunity to collaborate and use their combined skills and decades of experience to work with nonprofit organizations and families in support of their philanthropic priorities.

 

In addition to their professional collaboration, Carolyn and Melissa enjoy traveling together with their families, volunteering on boards, finding great places to eat and drink, and shuttling their kids to countless activities.
